Acrobatics sometimes gets a bad wrap—macho guys (and girls) have trouble coming to terms with the over-the-top artistic expression that comes with the sport.  Admittedly, I used to be a hesitant observer—I couldn’t get past the dramatic music and overly tight outfits that are inherent in acrobatic shows.  However, after seeing feats of strength like this, I am convinced that acrobatics and gymnastics do not belong in the “fake sport” category (sorry NASCAR, you still have a long way to go).

If you are still not convinced of the strength and agility that any acrobat needs, maybe you should check out the National Acrobats of the People’s Republic of China, who are coming to the UB Center for the Arts Mainstage Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.  The performance will showcase some of China’s finest acrobats, who have been praised for their well-executed and precise routines.

Based in Beijing, the company has been performing since 1950.  Since that first performance, the National Acrobats of the People of China have been continually expanding.  These days, their show includes a host of national award-winning acts that work together to leave audiences in awe.  Don’t think you’ll be amazed by the performance?
