Anyone can see a big time concert at Darien Lake, but it’s the intimate shows that can really make an impression.

This Wednesday, WYRK will host another talent-packed acoustic show featuring the Grammy nominated duo Thompson Square, JT Hodges, and newcomer Hunter Hayes. The three acts will play an unplugged version of their hits and new music starting at 7:30 p.m. at the UB Center for the Arts.

Thompson Square isn’t a real place, exactly. It’s the musical territory staked out by the husband-and-wife duo of Keifer and Shawna Thompson, an exciting and unpredictable area where country meets rock, rough meets smooth and one vagabond heart finds a harmonious common ground with another. The couple was nominated for a Grammy this year and is on their way to becoming the next great duo in country music.

For his first single “Hunt You Down,” JT Hodges came out of the gate with a song about hunting, that doesn’t have anything to do with camouflage. With a creative tune about the most universal pursuit known to man and signing with Toby Keith’s Show Dog-Universal Music label, Hodges is doing well for himself. Growing up in a family who owned a recording studio in Texas, I’m sure, didn’t hurt either.

No stranger to the Buffalo.com scene, Hunter Hayes is 20 yr-old artist who seems to have a ton of experience beyond his years. We got a chance to chat with Hayes a little while back while he was on tour in Florida. Be sure to check out the entire interview on our site. There may be no instrument that Hayes can’t play, but this is just the start of what’s sure to be a long future in the music business.

Tickets for the WYRK acoustic show are on sale for $25 and can be purchased through the CFA box office or online through Ticketmaster.
