Believe it or not, it’s been almost a decade since Fountains of Wayne released “Stacy’s Mom,” the MTV Total Request Live video sensation that earned the band a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. The video is probably not safe for work viewing—particularly if you have an uptight boss—so you may need to carve out for some personal time for this one.

Fountains of Wayne joins openers Summer People and Buffalo’s own The Albrights tonight at Buffalo Place’s Thursday at the Harbor show. The concert, which remains free to attend, runs from 5 to 9:30 p.m. at the Erie Canal Harbor Wharf.

While the power-pop outfit never really exploded as a band after such a promising debut—the group performed alongside the Smashing Pumpkins, after all—the four original members are still in tact, releasing a new album “Sky Full of Holes” in July 2011. Tonight marks the Albrights’ first show at the harbor, and this gig was the subject of a Buffalo Spree article by Elizabeth Lovria. The piece details the Albrights’ participation in the local theater scene—notably MusicalFare’s rendition of Oliver!, the honor of winning Artvoice’s Best Original Music Act and the ensuing momentum. 

Browsing through a Buffalo Place press release, the local organization notes that, for every $1.00 invested into the Thursday at the Harbor series, $6.38 is pumped into the local economy. There’s your reason to snag a few more slices of pizza, a beer or three or some merchandise.
