Bittersweet day for Victoria Justice! Live at Erie County Fair tonight, but TV show cancelled

Good news and bad news for Western New York fans of Victoria Justice, the 19-year-old Nickelodeon star and heiress to the teenage sweetheart throne polished by the likes of Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez. The good news, of course, is that Justice is slated to bring her “Make It In America” tour to the Buffalo.com Grandstand at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Erie County Fair.
The bad news? Her popular TV show, Victorious, has been cancelled. Tribune News reported on the decision today:
“Nickelodeon will not be moving forward with production on a fourth season of Victorious following the final season that will premiere this fall,” the network said in a statement. “We are very proud of the show, its very talented cast, and our audience will continue to see many of them in upcoming new Nickelodeon projects.
The show’s producer, Dan Schneider—the man behind other big Nickelodeon shows like iCarly—explained the cancellation in a statement of his own:
By now, a lot of you have heard that Victorious will not be returning for a 4th season. That is true. This was the network’s decision – not mine. Please understand: Almost all Nickelodeon shows have a life of about 60 episodes. We made around 60 episodes of Drake & Josh… of Zoey 101… and we made 41 episodes of The Amanda Show… and all those shows were big hits. So, it’s not unusual for a Nick show to do a run of just 60 episodes. I would love to have made more than 60 of Victorious, but that’s how it usually goes. We’re extremely proud of the show, and all we’ve accomplished.
So don’t cry for her, Western New York—Victorious 2.0, Justice’s most recent album, was number one on the U.S. Kids’ chart and reached the Top 20 in the Billboard 200. Victoria Justice will be around for a while. Plus, she can shoot a bow and arrow with her feet. That’s staying power, baby! She is also no stranger to the current lip-dub craze, which she and buddy Max Schneider pulled off panache in a recent YouTube video featuring Maroon 5’s hits. Well done, Victoria.
