Visit the Buffalo Zoo any day of the week, even Mondays and Tuesdays when the zoo had remained closed in recent winters.

With the number of school breaks, and Monday and Tuesday holidays, zoo representatives came to the realization that they were missing out, zoo marketing manager Michael Powers said. So now, the zoo will remain open seven days a week, even in winter months.

Powers said that the practice of closing the zoo on Mondays and Tuesdays during winter months started around 2005 as a way to save money.

Though the zoo doesn’t scream “WINTER FUN,” it actually offers lots of comfortable cold-weather activities. Powers suggested visitors check out Rainforest Falls, “where it’s always 80 degrees.”  The reptile house is fully enclosed and warm.

“Some animals will surprise you,” Powers said, explaining that the zoo’s tigers, for example, and other animals love romping in the snow. “We’re hardy Buffalonians. Come out and play.”
