Buffalo.com post inspires Ryan Gosling Tim Hortons mug - UPDATE

blog by S.J. Velasquez • January 21, 2013 @ 12:53pm
UPDATE: The one-of-a-kind Ryan Gosling cup from Tim Hortons is actually one of two, Buffalo.com has learned through firsthand experience. Upon arriving home Tuesday, I found a package on my doorstep from Tim Hortons headquarters in Canada. Inside, to my delight—and subsequent horror—was a coveted Gosling Goblet, shattered inside its bubble wrap encasement.
I managed to glue the larger pieces of the mug back together and notify UPS of the damaged delivery. UPS responded rapidly, offering to work with Tim Hortons to replace and send a new cup. The generous folks over at Tim Hortons are working on a new mug right now.
No word on whether Gosling has any intention of accepting my Tim Hortons date request, but I’m not about to give up ;)

PREVIOUSLY REPORTED:
Earlier this month, I suggested in a blog post that Tim Hortons create a Ryan Gosling mug after the “Gangster Squad” star expressed disappointment that his face never graced a fast-food cup. In a matter of days, Tim Hortons responded to the suggestion and actually made a mug for Gosling.
You’re welcome, Ryan.
The whole thing started with a Tribute.ca interview in which Gosling recalled his childhood infatuation with the ‘90s flick “Dick Tracy.” He admitted to collecting film merchandise, notably the Burger King cups featuring the movie characters’ faces.
“I thought I might get a cup out of this deal,” Gosling said during the interview, referring to his role in “Gangster Squad.”
The interviewer suggested Tim Hortons, the coffee-doughnut chain which originated in nearby Southern Ontario. Gosling, also a Southern Ontario native who grew up across the Canadian border from Buffalo, liked the idea.
“Could we get a Tims mug for ‘Gangster Squad,’ please?” Gosling pleads.
Recognizing that the movie’s advertising campaign was already underway and that it was a little too late in the game to partner with a major brand like Tim Hortons, Gosling asked, “How’s a cup gonna come into the picture?”
Well, Ryan, the right person happened to see that interview and take care of the dirty details for you. With the steady hand of my colleague Kathryn, we crafted a makeshift Timmies mug featuring your likeness. Then, I wrote an opinion piece supporting the “Gosling Goblet” concept, and I reached out to a contact at Tim Hortons.

Inspired by our efforts, Tim Hortons created a one-of-a-kind Ryan Gosling mug, and it’s on the way to Gosling right now.

Ryan, if you’re reading this, I am happy to have helped to make this dream of yours a reality. But, if you feel the urge to thank me, might I suggest a coffee date at Tim Hortons? I feel it’s only fitting.
