TV personality Carrie Keagan moved from the City of Lights to the bright lights of Los Angeles right after college because she wanted to work in the music industry, the New York Daily News reports, and she’s doing just that. But she’s back in New York—well, New York City, not Buffalo.

Buffalo-born Keagan has been working her way to the top as an actor, writer, producer and guest panelist on all types of entertainment shows, and now she has a show of her own for one big-name TV entity, VH1. Her dream of working in music—not necessarily as a musician—began back in Buffalo. But she said in the New York Daily News that those dreams just weren’t possible in Western New York, so she moved to California without promise of a job.

“I’d pretty much knew I wanted to get out of there right away,” she said in the interview. “I loved Buffalo; it was a great place to grow up, but it didn’t have enough for me. When I would tell people I wanted to work in the music business, I literally got a, ‘Huh?’”

The outspoken TV personality has a casual way of approaching interview subjects, making her an appealing choice for VH1, which is trying to attract more female viewers. You can catch Keagan as the host of VH1 morning show “Big Morning Buzz Live,” on weekday mornings beginning May 9.
