Buffalo’s own Snapcase to open for Dropkick Murphys in September

Crazy stuff happens in West Seneca basements. Snapcase, a local hardcore punk band born out of those suburban depths, will play a reunion show at 6 p.m. Sept. 14 as the opener for Dropkick Murphys at Funtime After Dark’s Outer Harbor Concert Series.

Tickets go on sale Friday and are $30 in advance, $38 day-of-show. They can be purchased through Ticketmaster.com, TownBallroom.com or by calling the ballroom at (716) 852-3900.
Think crowd-jumping is a euphoric experience? Check out the YouTube video of Snapcase performing “Drain Me” below. You’ll either be appalled or incredibly excited. It’s high energy, unbridled emotion and frankly, a little dangerous.
During its most active years, Snapcase recorded five studio albums between 1994 and 2003 before breaking up in early 2005. Reunited in 2010, the band has focused on larger festivals instead of creating an album and touring.
The band has experienced its share of misfortune, as a planned 2010 appearance at Belgium’s Groezrock Festival in front of ~30,000 fans was canceled because Snapcase’s flight over the Atlantic was prevented by the Icelandic volcano (Boston.com has some incredible shots of that event here).
Snapcase recovered from that setback with a successful trip to Groezrock in 2011, but the band has had a very quiet 2012 so far. Primarily playing in New York City and Buffalo, it makes sense that the band’s next scheduled gig will be fewer than 15 minutes away from where Snapcase was formed.
The five-piece band is incredibly off-the-cuff, especially when it comes to creating music and touring. Here’s a quote about Snapcase’s future plans as part of the Groezrock 2011 preview:
That’s the thing, we have no plans and that’s why it’s so awesome, like it’s all spontaneous. If we hear about something and if we can do it, we’ll try to do it. And if we can’t, we’ll see what the next phone call is. Before we broke up in 2005, we actually had almost an entire record written. We probably had a good 7-8 songs and ideas. We love playing together and who knows: if it happens, it will happen and if it doesn’t…So don’t expect anything.
