Buffalo’s creative minds are invited to schmooze and booze at an upcoming mixer intended to generate ideas and keep innovative juices flowing.

BuffaloComedy.com editor Kristy Rock was inspired to host an event that brings together comedians, actors, filmmakers and generally interesting people for an informal evening of networking Feb. 13 at Helium Comedy Club in downtown’s Cobblestone District.

Rock, on a quest to find a filmmaker willing to collaborate on some video projects for BuffaloComedy.com, placed an ad on Craigslist a few months back. Not only did she find a multimedia partner in Hate This Films, but she communicated with a long list of other locals interested in comedy, acting and video production. Realizing the wealth of talent looking to connect with other likeminded locals, Rock decided a mixer would be a great way to get all these idea-filled individuals together in a casual environment where they could meet.

“I’m a really big proponent of building the networking, getting people to produce, to make content,” said Rock, who just recently returned to her native Western New York after more than a decade living in Chicago.

The mixer is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. at Elements the restaurant-bar attached to Helium Comedy Club. There’s an open-mic comedy session scheduled immediately following the mixer for those who want to keep having a fun time later into the night.
