CONTEST: Win passes to advanced screening of ‘Gangster Squad’ (UPDATE)

blog by Kathryn Przybyla • January 03, 2013 @ 10:33am
UPDATE: Congrats to Julie, Troy, Haley, Katie, Faye, Jamie, Danny, Anna, Alyssa, Cara, Jessie, Abby, Rachel and Emily for winning the advanced tickets to Gangster Squad! Check your emails for information on picking up the tickets.
No names. No badges. No mercy.
We’re giving away advanced screening passes to check out “Gangster Squad” and you could be one of our lucky winners. The movie itself premiers nationwide in theaters on Jan. 11, but thanks to Buffalo.com, you’ll be able to catch the film ahead of time.
According to the film, here’s how the story goes:
Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and—if he has his way—every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop… except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart.
For your chance to win, comment on this post below stating your favorite Ryan Gosling movie and why. Every girl wants to date him and every man wants to be him, so we’re sure you’ve seen a couple of this kid’s flicks.
We are giving away 15 pairs of movie passes to an advanced screening of the film at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at the Walden Galleria Regal Cinemas.
From the comments, we will randomly select 15 winners to receive a pair of passes to the advanced screening. Winners will be announced at 10 a.m. on Sunday (Jan. 6). All comments must be submitted prior to that date and time.
PLEASE NOTE: These are advanced passes and do not guarantee a seat for the screening. Seating for this film is first come, first serve so please plan on arriving early if you attend. The theatre is overbooked to ensure a full house.
Winners must be able to pick up their passes from the Buffalo News Office (One News Plaza, Buffalo, NY 14240) at the corner of Scott St. and Washington St. in downtown Buffalo before 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 7. Good luck everyone who enters!

My favorite Ryan Gosling movie is “Remeber the Titans”—Alan Bosley FTW.
‘Murder by Numbers’ because it’s so outside of the type of movies that most people recognize him for. And because he’s beautiful…. but not as cute as a puppy.
“The Ides of March” was a great political thriller and “Crazy, Stupid, Love” was a surprisingly good comedy. I’ve also heard great things about “Blue Valentine” but haven’t had a chance to see it yet.
Seriously? The episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark he was in. Duh!

Half Nelson great example of the beauty in teacher student interactions
I want to say “The Notebook” like a typical girl would, but I have to go with “Blue Valentine”. It’s a role we don’t typically see him in (one in which he actually performed really well- obviously) and lets be honest… He’s beautiful no matter what.
Gosling was great in “Drive.” Supposedly he is great in “Blue Valentine” as well, although that looks like the most depressing movie ever made so I refuse to see it.
I definitely became a fan of RG when Breaker Higher aired (television series in the late 90s). He’s since showed off his versatility as an actor in movies like Ides of March.
Hands down…“Drive.” He gives the performance of his career and with minimal dialogue! You can tell he was channeling his inner “Rambo’”, which happens to be the movie that made him want to become an actor.
I want to win
I loved him in Blue Valentine - kind of a dark movie but his was a great performance!
Definitely “Drive” - his character is dynamic and has so many layers; he plays it perfectly.
I was skeptical about Crazy, Stupid, Love but Ryan Gosling and Steve Carell worked very well as co-stars in this somewhat serious comedy. Also Gosling’s style in the movie was sharp and refreshing. Gangster Squad seems like a good mix of action/suspense but also has Gosling’s signature, boy meets girl aspect. Definitely look forward to this one!
LOVE The Notebook, but my favorite has to be Crazy, Stupid Love. He was just such a sweetheart by the end!
He is excellent in ‘Drive.’ He carries the movie, which turns out to be surprisingly great.
Drive. Awesome movie with an even more awesome soundtrack. Thanks!
The Ides of March is his best movie
Murder By Numbers made me terrified of Gosling, and even though I know I should be head over heels for the guy after his recent hunky roles, I can’t get past his devilish nature in that film! Talk about a flick that sticks with you…
Murder by Numbers had the suspense I seek in my movie choices. Gosling has so many good movies to his credit but I like the suspense. Would love to see this one, on January 8.
If I didn’t say The Notebook, I would be lying. It gets me every time! He’s sexy, sencetive and a real ‘manly man’. He built a house for her! I’m so emotional.
