Quaint country communities, colorful quilts, rustic cabins, fluffy scratch-made baked goods—no, this isn’t a description of your Pinterest homepage.

We’re talking about real-life, no-computer-necessary cuteness in Amish country. And, lucky you, it’s just a heartbeat away from Buffalo.

New York’s Amish Trail is primarily centered in Cattaraugus County, about 60 miles from Buffalo.

The Amish, known for their resistance to modern technology, are a community of Christians who live simply and generally speak Pennsylvania Dutch (which is more of a German dialect). Many of New York’s Amish residents sell handmade products from their homes, and they welcome outsiders to buy from them. Common Amish goods include quilts, rugs, baked goods, candy, furniture, toys, baskets, eggs, homegrown fruits and vegetables, jams, woodwork, leather, limber and iron works, according to the Amish Trail website.

Wander the Amish community with a tour, or grab a map and stroll the Amish Trail on your own.

One avid fan of Amish treats said in a Gadling blog post that he would do just about anything short of selling his soul for an Amish doughnut.

Keep an eye out for a video of an Amish Trail day trip featuring Buffalo.com’s Adventure Gals in the coming days.
