echo: Art Fair

If you’re an artist in Buffalo, marketing your work isn’t easy.  Where do you promote it?  Maybe you’re an introvert that’s more comfortable spending hours toiling over a piece but don’t have the connections or time to sell your work.  Here’s your chance.

Both independent artists and galleries can submit their work for exhibit at the echo: Art Fair, a “new juried contemporary art event focused on emerging artists.”  The event, the first of its nature in Buffalo, will be held July 9th at the Central Terminal, but submissions are due by midnight on Friday, May 13th.

Several art mediums are accepted: paintings, photography, sculptures, print, works on paper, video and combined-media work are all encouraged.  Artists must submit a piece that’s $3,000 or less in value.

Artists deemed worthy by an illustrious panel of curators—including representatives from Buffalo Arts Studio, Albright-Knox Art Gallery, CEPA Gallery and more—will be alerted by June 10.  Art collectors will be invited from Cleveland, Toronto, Rochester and Pittsburgh to July’s fair, eager to purchase the fruits of Buffalo’s creative minds.

Or, if you’re just looking for something flashy and new to adorn your apartment, there’s no requirement to be an experienced collector.  Unfortunately, I don’t believe that my popsicle-stick sculpture of a pouting LeBron James will make the cut—especially since I value it at a princely $2,400.

Coordinators of the event include the Buffalo Expat Network, The Emerging Leaders in the Arts Buffalo, HandsOn Greater Buffalo and Hallwalls.  Proceeds will benefit echo’s organizers and the Central Terminal Restoration Corporation.  Join the Facebook event to receive up-to-date information.
