We’re catching Feist—set to perform in Buffalo tonight as part of the Buffalo Place Rocks the Harbor concert series—at an important time in the critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter’s career. On Friday night, she created a stir as one of the headliner at the indie prom that is Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago, drawing rave reviews for her performance. From MTV.com:

The singer came onstage with a guitar, looking pretty in a white dress and ready to wrap the first, very rainy day of the fest with her folky, soulful sound. Feist’s performance started immediately after the harmonies of the Dirty Projectors had died down from the nearby Red Stage…the Canadian singer delivered some tambourine-shaking, danceable moments, including on “I Feel It All” and on big, catchy sing-along songs like “My Moon My Man.” But on the whole, Feist was by far the quietest act of the fest’s first day. Considering that the main Green Stage on which she performed had just been riled up by Southern rapper Big K.R.I.T., it’s a testament to the quality of her songs and devoted fanbase that she not only held the interest of tired, rain-drenched festivalgoers, but had them singing along.

Feist is currently touring in support of Metals, her fourth solo album. The record received a heady 7.7 review from Pitchfork.com, whose Lindsay Zoladz noted that the effort was “...full of dynamic outbursts” and “...shift(s) between moments of repose and restless explorations of new frontiers.” The Guardian (UK) gave Metals four out of five stars, adding “...there’s something impressively soft and unspun about Feist’s quirkiness.”

Jeff Miers of The Buffalo News brought out some of his purplest prose in his preview of the upcoming show. “At once edgy and embraceable, melancholy and jubilant, the music of LESLIE FEIST is a modern pop anomaly, a celebration of the less-than-obvious, and a vivid embodiment of contradictions,” Miers proclaimed. “Which is to say that Feist makes pop music for people who take such things seriously.”

Well then, “serious” music fans, I guess that’s all you need to know. Tickets are $20 at the show. Gates open at 6 p.m.
