It’s hard to be any higher-profile than Fitz and the Tantrums are these days. Coming off a Friday performance at Bonnaroo, the majestic four-day festival on a Manchester farm in Tennessee, the California indie pop/soul outfit played a two-night gig with Dave Matthews Band at New York’s Jones Beach Amphitheatre. Sounds like a dream ride to us!

The band’s American Tour continues at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Buffalo Place’s free Thursday at the Harbor, the same series where Fitz and the Tantrums opened for Grace Potter and the Nocturnals last June. In 2012, however, the show will be held at the Erie Canal Harbor rather than Lafayette Square. Show openers include Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds and ZZ Ward.

Both Fitz and the Tantrums and Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds are impressively sharp in their wardrobe choices, particularly the former’s emphasis on full suits. Barney Stinson would be proud or possibly jealous. Read a full breakdown of the two bands’ styles here

“MoneyGrabber,” the hit single off Fitz and the Tantrums’ Aug. 2010 album, represents the band’s musical style well—upbeat, organ-heavy, guitar-less (there is a bassist, though) pop with a clear soul influence. Frontman Michael Fitzpatrick is joined on vocals by sassy Noelle Scaggs, whose confidence and crowd-engagement are a few of the highlights of the live show.

“Our style of singing, there is no 50 percent delivery of it,” Fitzpatrick said in an interview with Rolling Stone’s Andy Greenwald, author of the “Band to Watch” segment. “Noelle and I do not stop singing, dancing, asking the crowd to participate for the entire show. We must burn thousands of calories a night.”
