German immersion: Oktoberfest meets the Central Terminal

blog by Ben Tsujimoto • September 25, 2012 @ 11:36am
I’ve never been to Munich, but I have an inkling that Saturday night’s Oktoberfest party at the Buffalo Central Terminal, 495 Paderewski Dr., Buffalo, will feel like the German city transplanted.
From 4 to 11 p.m., Germans, fans of Germany and all revelers will unite to celebrate Oktoberfest in Buffalo’s East Side. Admission is $10 cash-only, but admittance is free if you’re dressed in traditional garb, like dirndls or lede…nevermind. College students receive half-off admission if they bring their student IDs and arrive between 4 and 5 p.m.

Authentic German beer and food will certainly create a buzz. Warsteiner, Dunkel Lager, Oktoberfest, premium Pilsner and Konig Ludwig Hefeweizen are the featured brews, but there’s also Mike’s Cranberry Hard Lemonade for those hesitant to fill “das boot.” Pott’s Deli will cater the festivities again after attracting very, very long lines at the Dyngus Day Festival in April.
The German American Musicians, the stars of last weekend’s Oktoberfest at Canalside (PHOTOS), will continue to hustle by performing at a special “biergarten” set up within the Central Terminal. The Auslanders are the headlining band on the bill. A “Miss Buffalo Oktoberfest” will be selected as well—I can’t think of a more premier title.
