Helium Comedy Club nears opening date

blog by S.J. Velasquez  •

A new comedy club and bar are headed to the Cobblestone District later this month, and the talent lineup is already star-studded.

Taking over 30 Mississippi St., former home to WJ Morrissey’s and Benchwarmers, is Helium Comedy Club.

The club’s stage will be christened Dec. 20 by “Last Comic Standing” finalist Rachel Feinstein, who will headline the show. Feinstein released comedy album “Thug Tears” on Comedy Central Records in November 2011. She’s also appeared on her own half-hour special, “Comedy Central Presents Rachel Feinstein.” Tickets for her three opening weekend shows are available for purchase through Helium’s official website.

Local comics will emcee and open each of Feinstein’s shows that weekend. They include Eric Lingenfelter, Shaun Murphy, Josh Potter, Mark Walton, Tyrone Maclin, Rick Matthews, Dan Fisher, Brian Herberger, Chet Wild and Kate Anderson.

Jim Norton will headline shows the following weekend. Norton’s appeared on various late-night talkshows, his own HBO specials. For more information about him or his end-of-December shows at Helium, click here.

Other comics slated to perform at the club at the start of the new year are Rich Vos, Tammy Pescatelli, Rob Schneider, DL Hughley and Brian Posehn.

Helium’s owner Marc Grossman told The Buffalo News in August that he expects many of Philadelphia’s Helium acts to also appear in Buffalo. “It’s a very similar demographic; it’s got that East Coast edge.”
