One of the most influential and skilled emcees of all-time will perform in Buffalo on Friday.
Long Island rapper Rakim—now a wizened 45 years old—will take the stage at 8 p.m. Friday at Town Ballroom, 681 Main St., Buffalo.
Rakim’s career started with DJ Eric B. in 1986 where Rakim was the MC of the rap duo that produced three albums and was nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The hip-hop artist’s career lasted beyond his partnership with Eric B., as Rakim’s solo career launched in 1997—he has released four albums since then. He is known for introducing a new lyrical technique called cliffhanging and popularizing the use of metaphors with multiple meanings.
He has been busy in the studio with Pharrell Williams working on his newest album that is set to release by the end of the year.
For hip-hop and rap fans this is a concert you won’t want to miss. Rakim is ranked the best lyricist of all-time by The Source and the fourth best emcee of all-time by MTV which promises this will be a show to remember.
Rakim will share the stage with popular local DJs, including DJ Cutler.
“DJ Cutler, in my opinion is one of the best DJs out of Buffalo, NY, and is probably the best-kept secret of all hip-hop DJs in America,” said Jason Chang from URB Magazine.
