While the title may trigger bad memories from the high school gym lockerroom, I’m really referring to the Harlem Globetrotters - the world-renowned basketball showboats - who will entertain the University at Buffalo Alumni Arena crowd twice on Saturday (2 PM and 7 PM). A special treat for UB basketball fans will be the return of Brian “Slingshot” Addison, the 6’9 forward who played two seasons under Reggie Witherspoon at Buffalo after transferring from Monroe Community College.
The Globetrotters’ array of stunts and tricks is nearly as diverse as its core of players - Wun the Shot Versher is the oldest participant (40), while the roster also includes two players who graduated from college in 2010. The group of entertainers loves to engage with the crowd, so be prepared if Bones Millien wants you to act as a prop for him to dunk over. Hey, these things happen.
