If you haven’t listened to the MovieMaddness podcast at Buffalo.com, then you’re missing out—it’s genuinely good. Local stand-up comedians / movie aficionados Jason Pomietlasz and Adam Hernandez and their friend, regular gal-about-town Kelly Boquard, discuss the latest offerings from Hollywood and tackle important cultural topics like comic conventions, reality television and award shows. It’s funny! Plus they’ve done over 50 episodes since its inception last May, which makes MovieMaddness one of the longest-lasting features on Buffalo.com (look out, Avery Hartmans).
Now it’s your big chance to hang out with these audio superstars: the MovieMaddness crew will record a live podcast at 7 p.m. on Thursday at The Vault (702 Main St., Buffalo). Guests include Buffalo comedians Mark Walton and Shaun Murphy. A surprise guest may also be in the works. There will be giveaways and other freebies, as well as live movie reviews and audience participation games. Tickets are $5 and are available online.
“Adam and I have been doing stand-up for the last year and half,” Pomietlasz explained in a recent email interview. “We run a monthly comedy room at the Adam’s Mark Hotel. We can seen on comedy stages around Buffalo, Rochester and Canada. Kelly is a serious journalist who is our news girl and usually is the voice of reason as the non-comedian.”
The live podcast offers a new challenge for the trio.
“I am excited to do the podcast in front of an audience because it will add a different dimension to it (the podcast),” Pomietlasz wrote. “Podcasts are like theater of the mind but with the audience it will be like a interactive play, like Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding, only not annoying. And Kelly is not used to being in front of an audience, so she is kinda nervous, so who knows what she might say. I might have to learn how to edit the podcast after this, since we usually never edit anything.”
