Kickin’ it in the Sticks with the Heritage

If you’re a fan of country music and looking for something really unique to check out this weekend, we found a crazy event right up your alley.
Hosted by the Heritage, the boys will be playing a psuedo-secret show out in the sticks alongside Ashland Belle on Saturday starting at dusk. Reminiscent of throwback country music videos and lyrics, these two bands are looking to bring a real country feel to their shows in a not so everyday setting.
This is going to be some serious country entertainment, literally out in the woods.
And you didn’t hear it from me, but location of the show is 8091 Westphalinger Rd. in Clarence. For details or questions about Kickin’ it in the Sticks, head over to The Heritage Facebook page.
We chatted with guitarist Scott Militello about the event this weekend to get a little more information.
So what can you tell us about the event you’re playing this weekend?
Scott Militello: We are doing a rare event in music—a free show in the middle of the woods. It’s what country music videos and songs all talk about but rarely happens. We look at this show as your chance to put yourself in the middle of one of those videos. We rend nothing, play on the back of two flat bed trucks and that’s it. No stage, no light show, just music and real people.
What does it mean to “kick it in the sticks?”
SM: It’s letting loose in the middle of nowhere where the only lights are from the moon, truck headlights and bon fires.
You’ve played shoes like this before, but what is it about playing out in the country like this that is so great?
SM: It’s our way of thanking country fans for supporting us. We love it because it allows us to step out of the norm—wearing boots and jeans instead of suits, dresses and heels. It’s like dancing in the rain—you’ve always wanted to, but never do it.
What would you suggest people bring to the show?
SM: Definitely a chair, blanket, your own cooler filled with whatever you like and your best friends. We will bring the party.
How much are tickets again?
SM: There are no tickets. It’s 100% free. No tickets, no bar sales, just good friends having a good time. It’s one of those “know someone who knows someone” kind of deals.
