Kristen Wiig’s last [SNL] laughs - VIDEO

blog by S.J. Velasquez • May 21, 2012 @ 9:45am
Rochester native Kristen Wiig and two “Saturday Night Live” co-stars are rumored to have shot their last live scenes for the iconic NBC sketch comedy show.
Although there’s been no official word of their departures from the show, Wiig, Andy Samberg and Jason Sudeikis are widely believed to be the latest SNL retirees. As the New York Times Arts Beat blog points out, rosters for next year are not expected to be announced until later in the summer or early fall when contracts have been signed for the upcoming season.
Wiig, who peaced out of Rochester with little formal acting experience to pursue a career in Hollywood and made a name for herself in the improv comedy scene, starred in a special sketch Saturday night which more than simply alluded to her departure from the show.
In a graduation sketch, Mick Jagger plays the part of a high school teacher (maybe principal?) who sends off “graduate” Wiig who, he says, is going to become a nun. Then Wiig, a cast member for about seven years, twirled and bopped along to “Ruby Tuesday” with individual castmates. Even executive producer Lorne Michaels joined her on stage for an emotional dance. Wiig appeared to be holding back tears, forcing a smile.
Watch the sketch below:
Buzzfeed commemorated the occasion with this list of 30 unforgettable Kristen Wiig characters.
I’m particularly fond of this sketch, featuring Syracuse chearleader Alec Baldwin, in which Wiig channels her inner Western New Yorker for this mock newscast from a fictional Buffalo news broadcast:
