Laying under the beer pong table and dreaming: life at the Dave Matthews Band concert

There were a lot of haters on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon, openly rooting for a weather-related cancellation of the Dave Matthews Band concert at Darien Lake Performing Arts Center. That ain’t right! Look, our favorite South African / Virginian folk-rocking singer / songwriter isn’t for everyone, but keep the vitriol to a minimum. You don’t see a bunch of fresh-faced (albeit red-cheeked—must be the sun, right? Right?) college kids taking to social media in hopes that St. Vincent’s bus crashes or Andrew Bird gets food poisoning when indier-than-thou acts grace the Queen City, do you? SO LAY OFF.
Anyhow, Buffalo.com promo team members Sarah B., Erin and Jessica went out to Darien Lake to wander the great grassy party plain outside of the Performing Arts Center. The threat of thunder storms did not seem to dampen the enthusiasm of the assembled concert-goers. In fact, not too many of the attendees seemed to be staying dry at this show, regardless of the weather, if you know what I mean.

So yes, people like to party. Ground-breaking stuff, for sure. They also like getting free stuff. Enthusiasm exploded on Twitter when the promo team start doling out free drink coozies:
...and there were plenty more where that came from. Our intern Erin—who also had the thrill of riding a hot-air balloon at heights reaching up to 10 feet earlier in the day (story forthcoming)—even earned a little Twitter love.
Such kind words. Erin the Intern: she’s a charmer.
Our Buffalo.com promo team is out at big events all over Western New York this summer—keep an eye on our Facebook page and Twitter feed to find them. They’re usually giving away free prizes, Buffalo.com merchandise and making you famous with photos that go onto our social media pages and even here at the old mothership. Have a safe Fourth of July, and we’ll see you soon!
