Have the urge to get crafty? The Western New York Book Arts Center can give you a helping hand this month.

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 27, locals are invited to check out Buffalo BookFest 2013 taking place at the Center (468 Washington Street, Buffalo).

According to event organizers, “WNYBAC will be hosting another Buffalo BookFest, the signature day-long festival dedicated to printing and the book arts. The festival will feature an artist’s market and a complete schedule of outdoor and indoor adult and kid-friendly hands-on demonstrations of the book arts, including steamroller printmaking.”

Some interesting book arts demonstrations at the festival include steamroller printmaking, printmaking for kids, paper marbling, letterpress demos, bookbinding, screenprinting demos, lino-cuts, repurposed books, dragon books for kids and more.

Here’s a look at the steamroller printing from last year’s event.

In addition to book arts demonstrations, unique items will be for sale from a number of vendors at the Artist’s Market including Flomade, Lily Pickford, Jewelry by Jan Nagle, Junco Press, Olden Designs, Crude Crafts by Elizabeth Switzer, Brave Bird Jewelry & Paperwork, The Great Moments in Western Civilization Cooperative, The Secret Chicken, Tuckamore Design, Papercraft Miracles, Sunnyoutside Press and more.

Handmade crafty items like hand-bound books, letterpress prints and small press publications are all available and could make for a quirky gift for someone special—or yourself.
