Armed with adorable beaded jewelry, lemonade and a coy smile, one 7-year-old is doing her part to keep little Luna the polar bear cub at the Buffalo Zoo.
Luna continues to melt the hearts of locals, but there’s a chance the cub could be shipped off to some other sanctuary if our local zoo doesn’t raise the funds needed to update the polar bear exhibit.
Jewelry maker Tracey LoVerde and her daughter Aly have made it their mission to put together a collection that represents Luna, and proceeds will be donated to the Buffalo Zoo’s Our Bears Belong in Buffalo campaign.
In order to meet the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ standards, the Buffalo Zoo is in the process of raising $18 million dollars to go toward the construction of a brand new polar bear habitat that will eventually house Luna and the other polar bears.
On Saturday, Aly and her mom will be selling pieces from the Luna Bear Designs collection, designed by the 7-year-old, at Buffalo Adore, located at 391 Abbott Road in South Buffalo. The free event will also feature a bake sale and basket auction.
Anyone who can’t attend the event but would still like to purchase Luna Bear Designs jewelry can visit the Etsy page.
