Taste, see and experience Mexico at a special event Saturday night on Elmwood Ave.

Casa de Arte will host an opening reception for “Masks To Set You Free” from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Enjoy live Mexican music, a dancing chinelo—a costumed dancer like you might see at Carnival—and crafts from the Cuernavaca area of Mexico. If you’re lucky, you’ll snag one of Laura Anhalt‘s tamales deliciosos.

“This exhibit will focus on indigenous masks with a story behind each mask,” according to Casa de Arte’s Facebook page. “The word ‘chinelo’ comes from the Nahuatl tzineloa, which means shoulder and hip movement.”

“Masks To Set You Free” runs through July 16 at Casa de Arte, 141 Elmwood Ave., Buffalo.
