Stayin’ Alive: New Found Glory touts the virtues of pop-punk

Florida-based pop-punk band New Found Glory refuses to let their genre die—at least that’s the message they’re trying to send on their current road trip.
The Pop Punks Not Dead Tour, which stops at the Town Ballroom (681 Main St.) on Tuesday, Oct. 25, has been working its way across the country to prove that the titular genre still has a pulse. Doors open at 7 p.m.
Other bands slated to perform are Set Your Goals, The Wonder Years, Man Overboard and This Time Next Year, but New Found Glory will likely be the biggest draw for most pop-punk purists. The band has been making music since 1997 and is famous for songs like “My Friends Over You” and “All Downhill from Here.”
In fact, New Found Glory has received praise as a ”...pop-punk band as influential as Blink 182 and Green Day.” Maybe the band’s lasting influence is due to the continuity of the group—the band has kept the same members in place since its inception with Jordan Pundik as the lead vocalist, Chad Gilbert as lead guitar, Steve Klein as the band’s lyricist, Ian Grushka as bassist and Cyrus Bolooki on the drums.
Tickets for the Pop Punk’s Not Dead tour are $17 in advance and $20 on the day of the show. You can get your ducats by stopping at the Town Ballroom Box Office or by visiting Tickets.com.
