Nickelodeon features Nardin students on Earth Day

blog by S.J. Velasquez  •

Clarissa, Pete, the other Peter, Doug, Zeek the Plumber—now Nardin students will join the ranks of awesome people on Nickelodeon.

When producers from Nickelodeon put out the call for eco-conscious youths to be featured on TV, Nardin science teacher Joy Africano nominated her students. Africano’s been helping students at Nardin learn about environmentally-sound practices through the school’s Green Initiative, which really impressed someone over at the kids’ television network. So Nickelodeon sent over some Flipcams, and asked Africano and her students to document the school’s green projects, which include composting and waste-free lunch days where everyone is asked to bring reusable lunch containers and utensils.

All that footage captured by Africano and her students will air Friday, Earth Day, on Nickelodeon. Nardin was the only Western New York school asked to participated in the Nick project, she said in a press release.
