Teen sensation Austin Mahone coming to the Buffalo.com Grandstand

We always feel a special sense of pride when we see the mighty Buffalo.com logo emblazoned across the grandstand each summer at the Erie County Fairgrounds. Think of the mighty performers that have crossed that stage—a young Taylor Swift (2008). Blake Shelton (2012). Miranda Lambert (2011).
Now get ready for the young man that some have hailed as ‘the next Justin Bieber.’ Ladies and gentlemen—well, mostly ladies, and of the younger variety—say hello to Austin Mahone.
The Erie County Fair announced Friday that Mahone will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 12 at the Buffalo.com Grandstand. Tickets will go on sale beginning May 4 at tickets.com. Prices will range from $25 to $40.
Mahone is a 17-year-old from San Antonio who—like The Biebs—initially caught the public eye with his YouTube repertoire. Dubbed ‘Baby Bieber’ by Billboard Magazine, Mahone ended a major-label bidding war in August 2012 by signing what is reputed to be a seven-figure deal with Universal Republic Records.
Mahone, however, wants to be his own man, as he told Entertainmentwise.com in an interview earlier this week:
“It’s cool you know, (Bieber is) very successful, it’s very flattering. But you know I want to people to give me a chance as my own artist you know to see me as me.”
Austin also revealed that such huge comparisons so early into his career adds a lot of pressure to match the ‘Baby’ singer’s success.
He added: “I want to be just as successful, I wanna be on the same level as him someday so it definitely does add a lot of pressure because I have talent so I gotta make it count.”
Mahone does have some work to do before he’s even in Bieber’s orbit. The Texan is currently #48 on the Billboard Social 50 chart—a measurement of “...(an) artists’ popularity (as) determined by a formula blending their weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist page views and weekly song plays”—while JB is #3. His current single, “Heart in my Hand,” is #94 on the iTunes Top 100 Songs chart. Bieber’s “All Around The World” is #84.
Mahone, however, has some tricks up his sleeve. He’s currently touring with Taylor Swift. He performed for President Obama at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll. He was just named as a presenter at the Radio Disney Music Awards.
By the time he gets to the Erie County Fair, this kid could—nay, should—be gigantic. And he’ll be walking out under that big Buffalo.com banner. That, friends, will be getting a Vine.
