Number the Stars

Number the Stars

It’s tough pleasing every member of a family. There are only so many episodes of “Doodlebops” a parent can watch before going off the deep end. And what kind of kid really enjoys these conspiracy theory documentaries on the History Channel? Buffalo’s Theatre of Youth offers “Number the Stars,” a happy medium for all family members. The play—adapted from a book by award-winning author Lois Lowry—follows a family of Danish freedom fighters who risk their lives to bring their Jewish friends to safety. The moving storyline is told through the lens of 14-year-old Annemarie Johannesen, making some of the play’s serious themes more relatable for young adults in the audience. Catch the play at 2 p.m. Feb. 5, 6, 12 and 13. The theater is located at 203 Allen St. in Buffalo.
