The beauty of The Good Neighborhood is its unwavering care for the local community—Seamus Gallivan and his cohorts regularly support organizations like Green Options Buffalo, Music Is Art and the Mass-Ave Project, and tonight’s jam at Duke’s Bohemian Grove backs the endeavors of PUSH Buffalo.

Soulive’s own Alan Evans and local mainstay DJ Cutler will casually drop the funk on an audience well-lubricated from a 7 p.m. to 8 open bar.  (Would I be the guy who challenged himself to drink six Three Philosophers in those 60 minutes?  Probably not—but you could be!  There are nearly 75 different bottled beers and 17 on tap, after all.)  Plus, D.B.G.B.‘s opened its kitchen in July—and the menu options, especially the fried pickles, are exciting.

Admired for his performances at Thursday at the Square and Buffalo Place Rocks the Harbor, Evans is beloved for his unrivaled “afro” hairstyle and sustained energy behind the drum set.  His being screams out “cool.”

Entrance is $15 at the door to participate in the mixer from 7 until 8 p.m.—with the coveted “open bar” during this hour—and then admission droops to $10 from 8 p.m. on.  A portion of the proceeds benefits PUSH Buffalo.

PUSH Buffalo stands for “People United for Sustainable Housing,” and the small group works with “partners and funders to create a healthy, just and strong city that includes community control of resources, living wage jobs and access to quality education, healthcare and transportation.”

Here’s the evening’s schedule:

7-8pm – Mixer with open bar, appetizers, raffles and rally calls; live music in-house with Square Circle

8:30-9:30 – DJ Cutler featuring Alan Evans

10:00-11:00 – Free Henry!

11:00-? – Free Henry+Cutler+Evans FULL SET, followed by Cutler ‘til the cows come home

Gallivan, founder of The Good Neighborhood, touts the final set that combines the talents of Evans and Free Henry! drummer Pat Mannella.  “The potential pyrotechnics between Evans and FH drummer Pat Mannella alone are worth the price of admission,” the organizer said.
