Buffalo’s arts scene excels at collaboration. In many Buffalo events, we see different organizations work together for mutual benefit—cooperation for a common good seems to be a source of pride for Buffalonians.

From 6 to 10 p.m.. Friday night at Main Street Studios, 515 Main Street, Buffalo, local web-based art gallery Queen City Prints—founded by Christopher Reilley—will hold Art for Good: A Collection of Work to Benefit WNYHeroes. Queen City Prints encourages a $5 donation in place of a true admission fee.

Over 15 artists will have their work featured at the studio and gallery space that Erica Eichelkraut opened in late Oct. 2011. The local artists include Christina Laing, Bruce Adams, Phil Durgan, Chuck Tingley, Mary Begley, among others, and their work will be on display and for sale at affordable rates until March 7. QCP’s slogan, “artwork for the masses,” is easy to resonate with.

You’re muttering to yourself: “But I really like to munch on authentic Mexican food as I browse for art!” Lloyd Taco Truck has your back, as Buffalo’s first non-restaurant-affiliated food truck will serve tacos and burritos (and the delightful Aztec hot chocolate) outside of Main (ST)udios Friday night. A portion of the proceeds from Lloyd’s sales will benefit WNYHeroes as well.

Founded in 2006, WNYHeroes provides for war veterans returning to Western New York after serving in combat. With the goal of “regaining stability and health in the [veterans’] personal and professional lives,” the not-for-profit organization connects those who served our country with the right contacts to ensure that the transition home is smooth and comfortable.

“I’ve got great respect for the military—they sign up to do things a lot of us could never do,” Reilley said. “A handful of my family and friends have served, so ‘Art for Good’ is a way for me say thanks and hopefully make a difference in someone’s life. Art openings are a great way to see some impressive local work, but if they can also be the means to a better life for someone else, they become even more important.
