Reading Invasion: Part III on Saturday

blog by Ben Tsujimoto • September 21, 2012 @ 9:31am
The western edge of Hoyt Lake in Delaware Park is a versatile spot. Last weekend, the annual Music Is Art festival occupied the grounds behind the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, attracting musicians, dancers and artists of all ages for a full day of entertainment.
From 4 to 5 p.m. Saturday along Hoyt Lake, the third Buffalo Reading Invasion takes place on the lawn. If you haven’t experienced the Reading Invasion before, the idea is simple: bring friends, hang out quietly for an hour at a popular area in Buffalo (the others have been Bidwell Park and Larkin Square) and paw through a good book.
Here’s a word from the Reading Invasion organizers:
There is plenty of waterfront area to sit by, lots of grassy knolls, and a few benches scattered throughout. You may want to bring a chair or blanket (and a picnic for sure).
While I’m guilty of losing my focus during these hour-long sessions—the allure of Twitter is awfully strong these days—it’s still relaxing and an opportunity to explore new areas of Buffalo. I don’t have an exact number, but I’m willing to bet at least half of the 200+ people at the Larkin Reading Invasion were witnessing the square’s brilliance for the first time.
If you have good ideas for spots for future Reading Invasions—even indoors, now that the season is changing—organizer Geoff Schutte can be contacted at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), and he’s pretty receptive to public opinion.
