Ready for another Irish festival?

blog by S.J. Velasquez  •

Just when you felt the Celtic music and dance withdrawal kicking in, another Irish festival will pick up where the Buffalo Irish Festival left off.

On Saturday, Cazenovia Park will host the South Buffalo Irish Feis and Expo, a daylong lineup of entertainment with an Irish twist, food and activities. Beginning at noon and running until about 11 p.m., the festival is the continuation of an already Irish-themed day. Earlier Saturday morning, runners in wild costumes will crawl through mud and jump through blazing hoops for the Finn McCool 4 Mile Odyssey.

So, you’re probably wondering why a second Irish festival is necessary, especially in the course of just two weeks. For one, many of the bands will be different, and some of them will be neighborhood favorites. Crikwater and Southside, for example, are South Buffalo-based bands who make their rounds on area pubs’ stages and in cafes. Other bands slated to perform include the Blarney Bunch Cosain, Barley Juice, Needfar, Emish, the Prodigals and the Town Pants. And—let’s be honest here—it’s not a true celebration of Irish culture without a few lively traditional Irish dance performances. (Full disclosure: I’m an Irish dancer.) To meet your step dancing needs, catch a show by Rince na Tiarna, Clann na Cara or the O’Sullivan Academy of Irish Dance.

The South Buffalo Irish Feis and Expo offers locals tons of opportunities to learn about organizations and businesses right in the South Buffalo neighborhood, too. To find out what’s happening in the community, stroll over to the vendors area to talk with business owners, sports team coaches, dance teachers and more.
