Rival Schools: post-hardcore supergroup hits Mohawk Place

There was a group of kids growing up in the 1990s—not a lot of kids, to be sure—who considered Walter Schreifels a hero. Schreifels was one of the driving forces behind seminal Long Island hardcore band Gorilla Biscuits, did a tour of duty in Youth of Today and later was the singer and guitarist for Quicksand, whose two albums are considered some of the finest work in the post-hardcore canon.

Schreifels will be in town this weekend when he brings his current project, Rival Schools, to Buffalo for a 7 p.m. show on Sunday at Mohawk Place (47 E. Mohawk St., Buffalo) with Hostage Calm. General admission tickets are $14.

Rival Schools is a bit of a post-hardcore supergroup—in addition to Schreifels, members include former CIV drummer Sam Siegel and former Iceburn bassist Cache Tolman. Guitarist Ian Love recently left the group.

The band is touring in support of their album Pedals, which was released in March.
