Stuff Christmas stockings with Buffalo cheer

blog by S.J. Velasquez • November 30, 2012 @ 1:09pm
In keeping with our promise to support local businesses, we’ve scoured the Web and local shops for small, inexpensive gifts with which to stuff Buffalo-lovers’ stockings.
From locally produced hot sauces to fun fridge magnets, the options are endless. But, given the fact that it would take forever, literally, to type up that list of infinite items, I offer 10 suggestions for great local gifts all $25 or less:
1. Buffalo Fridge Phrases, $20
More than 200 magnetic uniquely Buffalo words and phrases come in a pack, providing loads of fun for locals and expats.

2. Buffalo-shaped cookie cutter, prices vary
Nothing says “home for the holidays” like buffalo-shaped Christmas cookies. Buffalo cookie cutters can be found all throughout Western New York and the Web. Check Spoiled Rotten and Premier Gourmet to see if these cute cutters are in stock near you.
3. Buffalo Art Glass ornaments, $14
Etsy artist Bridget Falk creates beautiful glass ornaments that’ll glimmer on any Christmas tree. Her Buffalo-themed ornaments are colorful, creative and unique.

4. Buffalo wing ornaments, $10.95
Visit Buffalo Niagara’s gift shop, located in downtown’s Market Arcade building, is an ideal one-stop shop for filling up on Buffalo trinkets of all prices. Get everything from these shiny wing ornaments to clothes and artwork.

5. Beach glass jewelry, prices vary
Carry a little piece of Lake Erie’s shores around your neck all throughout the year with Beach Glass Bum‘s clever creations.
6. City Dining Cards, $20
From the folks who bring us Fridge Phrases: Buffalo Edition, we have City Dining Cards and their cocktail counterpart cards. Each card in the dining deck is worth $10 off a $30 bill at participating restaurants.
7. Buffalo holiday cards, prices vary
Whatever your religion, spread the holiday cheer—Buffalo style. These Christmas, Hanukkah cards and politically-correct holiday cards, available on Etsy, scream “Season’s Greetings!”
8. Share the Bear, benefitting Hospice of Buffalo, $10
Sales of these cuddly bears benefits Hospice of Buffalo. Buy a bear for a loved one in your life, or buy one for an Essential Care child who faces a life-threatening disease.
9. Niagara Popcorn, prices vary
Sweet and savory popcorn in all kinds of packages, including festive bags and in the form of holiday cakes. For an especially local flavor, get the Buffalo-style popcorn.
10. Buffalo hot sauces, prices vary
Frank’s RedHot is fine and dandy, but “Buffalo-style” sauces have evolved quite a bit over the years. For any friends and relatives who’ve moved away from the Queen City, send them a slew of hot sauces from home. I’d suggest sauces from Anchor Bar, Ted’s and Lloyd Taco Truck.
