Superhuman Shankman to speak in Buffalo Thursday

blog by Ben Tsujimoto • May 16, 2012 @ 2:54pm
The bio for Peter Shankman starts out in typical fashion for a successful individual. He’s started a versatile company called The Geek Factory, which specializes in marketing, advertising, PR and social media strategy, and within that, Shankman also launched an innovative, practical site called HARO, which stands for “Help a Reporter Out.”
He was Senior News Editor for America Online, jump-started the AOL Newsroom and covered the 1996 Democrat and Republican conventions for the site, the first time an online news organization created content for a political event.
If you’re already intrigued, then you’ll be thrilled to hear that the Advertising Club of Buffalo has invited Shankman to speak at 7 p.m. Thursday at Templeton Landing on a presentation called “The Next Revolution will Happen in your Pocket.” Tickets ranging from $25 to $65 are available for purchase here, and there’s a VIP option for an hour of open bar and delectable hors d’oeuvres.
Even after all the initial accolades from the first few paragraphs, the details of Shankman’s life become even more impressive. First, he lives in New York City with a cat named NASA the Wonder Cat, which is remarkable in itself, particularly with the details that the presumably-plump feline refuses to leave Shankman’s couch.
Also, rather matter-of-factly, the bio continues to say he’s completed 13 marathons, seven Olympic distance triathlons, owns a “B” license in skydiving and is currently training for the inaugural New York City Ironman on Aug. 11, 2012. Is this man a super-human? Does he somehow jam 28 hours into a day? Should he be referred to as Peter the Wonder Human?
It gets crazier. With the understanding of how many tweets are sent in a day—roughly 200 million is a solid estimate—Shankman had one of his tweets selected in Twitter founder Jack Dorsey’s Top 10 Tweets of 2011.

In our minds, that’s reaching baller status. For a taste of Shankman’s musings, check out his blog.
