The Good Neighborhood burns the midnight lamp for Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper

blog by Ben Kirst • June 21, 2012 @ 7:00am
When ace music promoter, first-rate Buffalo booster, friendly competitor and all-around good guy “Famous” Seamus Gallivan promises a show is going to be “a socknocker,” we at Buffalo.com stand up and listen. Throw a little Hendrix into the mix and we’re practically foaming at the mouth. Do the kids still listen to Hendrix? A firm appreciation of Axis:Bold As Love should be a prerequisite for a high school degree.
Anyhow: Gallivan’s blog / organization / promotional company, The Good Neighborhood, sponsors a bimonthly series entitled Tributaries in support of Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper. The next edition of Tributaries—slated for Saturday—will pull together, Gallivan notes, “...(at) least five of Buffalo’s deep pool of explosive guitarists… to pay tribute to Jimi Hendrix at Nietzsche’s (238 Allen St., Buffalo), featuring power trios led by Jony James, Vincent James, and Zack Mikida, with guests Ron LoCurto, Jeff McLeod, and more.” There is a $5 cover for this 10 p.m., 21+ show.
Here is how it’s going to go down, straight from Seamus:
- “Each trio will perform a no-repeat set of their favorite Hendrix songs, inviting the guests to join them for two selections of their own. LoCurto will join the opening set from Jony James Band, while McLeod will sit in with the Vincent James Explosion, and Mikida will include saxman Andre Killian along with some surprises for the finale.”
- “Pouring water on their fire will be representatives from Riverkeeper, who will offer for one last night raffle tickets to win a kayak donated by BFLO Harbor Kayaks, while also sharing information about ongoing programs and upcoming events in support of their mission of protecting and restoring the quality and quantity of our water while connecting people to area waterways.”
- “In addition to being sold at the event, kayak raffle tickets are also available online.”
So there you have it—don’t say there’s nothing to do this Saturday. If you enjoy the work of a certain Mr. Hendrix and the water of a certain nearby nautical body , make it down to Allentown.
