Hop in your time machine and head back to the age of flappers and gangsters—the Roaring Twenties. It’s the theme for Olcott Beach Carousel Park’s Community Appreciation Day. The event will be from 12 to 6 p.m. on Aug. 21 at the Olcott Beach Carousel Park. It’s a big birthday bash for their 1928 Allen Herschell carousel’s birthday. The park is even giving out free carousel rides as a thank-you to guests for supporting the park.

There’s plenty of fun for everyone, whether it’s washable tattoos for the younger crowd or antique 1920’s vehicles for car enthusiasts. Make sure you get there early enough for free rides on the Olcott Fire Truck from 1 to 3 p.m., then munch on some cookies and join in the Skee Ball Challenge; there are three divisions, and the winner of each gets a Regal Theater gift card. There’s even entertainment on the stage, although the park hasn’t officially announced the acts. Stick around for a visit from Betty Boop, and don’t forget to bring your spinach—special guest Popeye is sure to enjoy it.

The not-for-profit park, now in its seventh year of operation, was created as a historic amusement park to preserve some pieces of the 1940s and 1950s. It is run completely by volunteers.
