This weekend, students from over 20 are schools and local groups will be recreating famous works of art on the gallery grounds.

Thousands are expected to stop by the Albright-Knox Art Gallery for the 15th annual “Art Alive: A Living Art Contest.” The exhibition will take place from noon to 2 p.m. this Saturday on the gallery grounds across from Delaware Park. This is a free event for the Buffalo community, open to the public and will include music and activities for families.

According to the Albright-Knox,

Participants, largely from area schools participating in the Art’scool program, reproduce famous works of art in the most creative ways; some spend several months building and preparing their entries. The stunning interpretations involve people, props, and even music. Adults, families, and artists also participate.

Prizes will also be awarded to participating artists in the following categories:

Judges Awards
—Best First-Time Entry: $250 (New Award for 2012 in Honor of the Gallery’s 150th Anniversary)
—Best Tableau from the Gallery’s Collection: $300
—Handyman Award for Best Craftsmanship: $250
—Off-the-Beaten-Path Award for Most Unusual Entry: $250

People’s Choice Awards
—Grades K–8: $200
—Grades 9–12: $200
—Adults: $200
