Want that old thing back: Being B.I.G. honors the memory of a legend

Being B.I.G., a tribute to The Notorious B.I.G. and fundraiser for cancer awareness, is at DBGBs on Friday, March 9.

It’s almost strange to think that, once upon a time, Tupac Shakur and Chris Wallace were vibrant, living contributors to the American music scene. So much time has passed since their violent, shocking deaths—Shakur was shot and killed in 1996, Wallace in 1997—that the rappers seem more like myths than real men.

Friday, March 9 will mark the fifteenth anniversary of Wallace’s still-unsolved murder, and the local scene will celebrate the life and work of the man best known as Notorious B.I.G. with Being B.I.G., a special event presented by After Dark Entertainment and DTR45, at 10 p.m. at DBGBs (253 Allen St., Buffalo). Being B.I.G. will feature live performances from the vaunted Biggie Smalls catalog by some of Buffalo’s most talented hip-hop artists.

Being B.I.G. was conceived by local concert promoter Damon Bodine, who will use the proceeds from the show to help fund his participation in the New York City Half Marathon on Sunday, March 18 in Central Park as part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training. Bodine is a survivor of Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Admission for the 21-and-over show is $5. For more info, check out the event on Facebook.
