While we would never recommend skipping a performance by Grand Island’s own Stacy Clark, we understand that some people lack the transportation or motivation to drive out to Niagara Falls.  Don’t worry!  You can still prove your indie rock bona fides by making an appearance at the Minus The Bear show tonight at Town Ballroom (681 Main St., Buffalo).  Doors for this 16+ show open at 7 p.m .  The Velvet Teen is also on the bill.

So what can we quickly tell you about Minus The Bear?  The band is a five-piece from Seattle.  Their sound, according to our good friends at Wikipedia, has been described as “Pele-esque guitar-taps and electronics with sophisticated time signature composition.”  To celebrate their 10th anniversary, Minus The Bear is playing its debut album, Highly Refined Pirates, in its entirety.  That’s gotta be fun, right?  After all, the group offers a “...distinctive spastic prog-pop hybrid, all serrated rhythms, swirling synths, and guitarist Dave Knudson’s multi-layered, pedal-hopping acrobatics.”  Sounds pretty good, especially if you’re taking some strong cold medicine, if you know what I mean.

Sweet.  The Velvet Teen is pretty good, too.  I was briefly obsessed with this song back in the early 2000s:

I sent away for a Velvet Teen album, and was furious when this song wasn’t on it.  Ah, the old days, when you sent checks in the mail to get music on CDs!  Those days sucked.  This concert should be good.  Tickets are $24 at the door.  CHECK IT OUT.
