Welcome back, Jim

blog by Dan Ludwig • October 19, 2011 @ 1:18pm
Stand-up comedian and actor Jim Gaffigan will stop in the Queen City on Saturday to perform at UB’s Center for the Performing Arts. This is Gaffigan’s second stop at UB.
The root of Gaffigan’s humor is difficult to classify—his routines often consist of hypothetical asides where he takes the point of view of a whiny or naive audience member. Coupled with these asides are Gaffigan’s comments on everyday situations such as waiting to cross the street and getting asked for directions.
However one chooses to summarize Gaffigan’s material, it is clear that audiences like his routine. According to his online bio, Gaffigan’s distinctive style has made him one of the most successful stand-up acts in the country, and his CDs and DVDs have reached platinum sales.
Gaffigan does more than stand-up comedy, however. In fact, he had breakout roles on two HBO cult hits: “Flight of the Conchords” and “Bored to Death.” These shows helped bring Gaffigan into the spotlight as a major player in the comedy scene.
If you don’t recognize Gaffigan from those hilarious shows, then maybe you remember him as Larry Johnson, the confused man who fell victim to Vermont State Troopers in “Super Troopers.”
