Ever been in a school play? Musical? Community theater? Performance art piece? Flash mob? TV show? Feature film? Tell us in the Comments section below and you could win a pair of tickets to see Buffalo acting legend Vincent O’Neill in St. Nicholas at Road Less Traveled Productions Theater (639 Main St., Buffalo) this weekend.

Almost everyone has some experience in the spotlight. Look at the Buffalo.com team—SJ Velasquez vowed not to drink on prom night in a commercial filmed for WUTV. Kat Przybyla appeared in a high school production of The King and I. Ben Tsujimoto has, on various occasions, donned a sheep costume to promote the SweetFind daily deals program. Katie Costello was the voice of Buffalo.com in radio commercials heard throughout the region last summer.

Me? I danced the Macarena with The Quizmaster Dennis George on public access television. True story.

My debut stage role was a mouse in a ballet production of Cinderella at age five. My dance career concluded with the role of soloist in Paquita at age eighteen. During the years between, I danced various roles ranging from a tap dancing plate in Beauty and the Beast to the tallest babushka doll in The Nutcracker. Things got weird when I performed with a college dance club at UB…lost of floor writhing involved in those pieces.

I have been wanting to get back into acting on stage for a while now. In the mean time i have for the most part been behind the camera, making vampire shorts and little political documentaries. My first foray into acting was when i was in 7th grade, i auditioned for a college play, in a “Christmas Carol”. While auditioning for a bit with no lines, because i was to be silent, i thought i would play a guy stranded on an island that lost his ability to speak and attacked the helicopter that came to save him, so I grunted and bounced around like a monkey looking up into the sky. i got the part. Thinking back i still get a laugh about my over acting at the audition. They asked me to be in another play after that. I still call the actor that played the father in the play, DAD, when ever I see him, and it has been over 30 years since the play.
