Wrangling for a cause

An avid country music fan, nothing made me happier than discovering this year’s Catwalk for Charity theme was country western. I don’t exactly hail from the backwoods and we don’t have enough land to farm in Getzville, but I originally fell in love with southern rock after a few trips to Nashville while traveling for dance competitions in high school. Not many of my friends shared my passion, but this weekend that all changes.
It is the main fund-raising event for his charity, the Steadfast Foundation, and one of Buffalo’s “must attend” events of the year. Ryan Miller’s Catwalk for Charity will take place from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. this Sunday at the Town Ballroom and things are about to get country. Modern day Nashville and the Old West will meet Buffalo when current and former Buffalo Sabres players will strut their stuff down the runway in full cowboy gear. The flannel shirts, cowboy buckles, chaps and denim skirts will be in full force by guests and hosts alike. Even Rick Jeanneret is getting in the spirit with a surprise Dolly Parton costume—one can only imagine.
Local and national celebrities will be in full force this Sunday as well. Chief E! News correspondent and Buffalo native, Ken Baker, will be hosting the red carpet for the event and is no stranger to the hockey world. Baker formally played professional hockey for the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL as a goaltender.
As if spending the night with the Sabres dressed as cowboys wasn’t enough, attendees will also get the chance to bid on some exceptional live auction items. Prizes include a trip for two travel with the team to an away game, a night in the broadcast booth with Jeanneret and Harry Neale during a home game, a round of golf with Lindy Ruff and a VIP trip to the Kentucky Derby among many other items. For those looking to browse and bid while at Catwalk, the silent auction boasts a few more prizes as well. Attendees can bid on Sabres autographed memorabilia, a Ryan Miller cell phone greeting, horseback riding lessons and a team USA clothing package from the 2010 Olympics among other prizes.
Rounding out the entertainment for the event, guests will be treated to live performances by local country artists Scott Militello and Wild Nik West. But the big draw for this event is sure to be country music superstar Craig Morgan who is the fundraiser’s headliner. With huge radio hits like “International Harvester”, “Red Neck Yacht Club” and “That’s What I Love About Sunday”, Morgan is sure to get the crowd going this weekend.
If you haven’t gotten tickets yet, head over to the Steadfast Foundation website and order them before the Catwalk for Charity sells out. I’ve got a Taylor Swift inspired outfit to pick out this weekend so be sure to go all out when it comes to your country western attire.
Here is a video from the event in 2009 with Rick Jeanneret and Harry Neale rocking the runway.
