Adventure Gals: Amish Trail road trip - VIDEO

This week the Adventure Gals headed to the Amish Trail to browse quilts and eat our weight in doughnuts. Right away I thought I was in a scene from a movie because two children emerged from the cornfields to greet us with pitchforks in hand. However, one of the boys went straight to the Pepsi machine, which is not very Amish if you ask me.

Our first stop was Valley View Cheese Factory where we discovered God’s gretatest gift to Earth – bacon cheese (sorry vegetarians). There we tried on several bonnets so we could blend better into our surroundings.

Next, we stopped by Malinda’s Candy Shop to satisfy our sweet tooth. While Malinda was busy in back, Katie and I helped ourselves to what may or may not have been free samples of fudge. But, after stuffing our faces we did purchase some homemade chocolate and blueberry jam.

Obviously we were prepared to see plenty of quilts, beards and buggies, but what we did not expect to find was true love – Bridget the Amish dog. Within ten seconds of meeting her Katie was hooked. Those two were meant for each other, both full of energy that never fades. If all goes well, Katie will be dog sitting the little nugget while Bridget’s parents travel to Ethiopia in October.

The only thing I wanted to do all day was hijack a horse and buggy and ride off into the sunset. Unfortunately, that did not happen so we had to settle with the next best thing, which was rolling down hills. We rolled, we frolicked, we even sang “the hills are alive with the Adventure Gals” (our own version of the classic Sound of Music tune), but after all that we were beat and ready to head back to a life of Wi-Fi, air-conditioning and processed food.

Now we did not find any Amish doughnuts, but what we did come across was a 10,000 box of Tim Horton’s timbits, causing Katie to literally jump out of the moving car. You can imagine the excitement on our faces when we saw this six foot wooden replica. If only it had actually been packed with jelly-filled balls of dough, our lives would have been complete.

So you have seen us fly so hard in a helium balloon, freeze so hard on Free Slurpee Day and now Amish so hard, but what will we do next? Maybe swim with the sharks or walk across fire. If you have any suggestions feel free to send them our way. The Adventure Gals are always up for anything!
