Here’s your chance to catch a preview of tomorrow’s hockey stars, today.
Forty of the top American-born prospects eligible for the 2013 NHL entry draft will strut their stuff at 7 p.m. on Saturday at First Niagara Center. Announced in April of this past year, the inaugural All American Prospects Game will spark a great relationship between the Buffalo Sabres and USA Hockey—hopefully to host future events.
Among the 40 players chosen, a few Western New York hockey players have also been invited to the game. Sean Malone, a West Seneca native, is a forward currently committed to play for Harvard University, Justin Bailey is a Williamsville native currently playing as a forward on the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL and Matt Lane is a forward playing for Boston University and a native of Rochester.
Tickets for the All American Prospects Game are on sale for $15 for 200 level end seating and $20 for 100 level and the rest of the 200 level seats. For more information on tickets, pricing and seating, head over to the Tickets.com website.
According to USA Hockey, “Among the 12 defensemen invited are Seth Jones (Plano, Texas) and Will Butcher (Sun Prairie, Wis.), who helped the U.S. National Under-18 Team win a gold medal at the 2012 International Ice Hockey Federation Men’s Under-18 World Championship. They are joined by Dakota Mermis (Alton, Ill.), who helped guide the USHL’s Green Bay Gamblers to Anderson Cup and Clark Cup titles in 2012.
The 24 forwards feature J.T. Compher (Northbrook, Ill.), Ryan Hartman (West Dundee, Ill.), Matt Lane (Rochester, N.Y.), Anthony Louis (Winfield, Ill.), Quentin Shore (Denver, Colo.) and Frank Vatrano (East Longmeadow, Mass.) who were also members of the U.S. team that won the 2012 IIHF Men’s Under-18 World Championship.”
Buffalo Sabres alumni, Phil Housley and Rob McClanahan will play as opposing head coaches for the Prospects Game, both having an incredible amount of experience in successful Team USA contests.
“Housley helped Team USA win the 1996 World Cup of Hockey championship and McClanahan contributed to the gold-medal effort at the 1980 Olympic Winter Games,” says the game’s organizers.
