The alternative rock trio will be making its way to the Queen City this Friday.

Formed in 1993, Ben Folds Five is made up of Darren Jessee, Robert Sledge and Ben Folds and has a huge underground indie-pop following. Best known for songs such as “Brick,” “Army” and “Song For the Dumped,”

Based in North Carolina, the group ran into a few issues about seven years into a bit of a rut.

According to their website,

Due to artistic differences, Ben Folds Five broke up in 2000, and the first Ben Folds solo album, Rockin’ the Suburbs, was released in 2001, with Ben playing most of the instruments himself. The album yielded the anthemic title hit and and more Ben Folds classics including “Annie Waits,” “Zak and Sara,” “Still Fighting It” and “The Luckiest.”

But following a one-time performance in 2008, the group officially reunited in 2011 to record a new album. This past year has been huge for Ben Folds Five, after joining major music festivals like Bonnaroo and Summerfest. Just last month, the group released “Do It Anyway,” the first single off their new record, The Sound of the Life of the Mind.

Ben Folds Five will be performing at 7 p.m. this Friday at Kleinhans Music Hall. Tickets are $38 and $50 and can be purchased through the BPO website.
