Buffalo slips on list of best cities for working moms

Buffalo was ranked No.1 on Forbes’ “Best Cities For Working Mothers” in 2011, but the Queen City slipped to No. 9 this year.
Columbus, Ohio, took the top spot on the list in 2012 due to the city’s low unemployment rate, higher-than-average salaries for women and quality of life. Forbes explains further the formula for determining the rankings:
“To determine the rankings we began with the largest 50 metropolitan areas by population. From that point we stopped to consider that “best” means different things to different moms—from the cost of a gallon of milk to avoiding an hour long commute. Job opportunity and high earnings potential are, of course, critical, and so we tracked women’s weekly earnings from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. A successful career is on the top of every working woman’s wish list.”
On top of the information mentioned above, Forbes also considered safety, schools, hospitals and ranking from Sperling’s Best Places.
Still, Buffalo landed at a respectable ninth place on the list, one place higher than the city’s place on 2010’s list.
