Afraid to hit that mid-afternoon slump at work? We’ve got just the fix.

Today is “national sticky bun day” and in order to celebrate, reward yourself with some breakfast pastries made with leavened dough. Traditionally calling for pecans, maple syrup or honey, cinnamon and butter in the recipe, sticky buns are the perfect way to perk up your day.

Here’s a little history on the cinnamon treat.

According to Punchbowl, “The first people to add honey and nuts to their bread were the Ancient Egyptians. Glazed pastries have been popular ever since! German settlers in Pennsylvania created our modern-day sticky buns. The pastries were originally called “Schnecken” and are still considered a Philadelphia specialty.”

If you’re not convinced yet how delicious the sticky bun is, don’t take my word for it—take Bobby Flay’s.
