Delaware park ice rinks nearly ready for skaters - UPDATE

UPDATE: Delaware Park’s rinks are filled up and starting to freeze, according to Buffalo Pond Hockey’s Facebook page.

The Facebook moderator also said in a comment thread that the rinks are tentatively scheduled to open later this month:

After a slow start to winter weather, Delaware Park is back on track to host an outdoor ice rink—two rinks, to be precise.

Just a few weeks ago, the patch of grass with the potential to become Delaware Park’s skating rinks was still a vibrant green. Thanks to some recent freezing temperatures, a firm ice is in the cards for Delaware Park’s rinks.

On Dec. 17, this photo of Martin Luther King, Jr. Park’s still-grassy ice rink was posted to the Buffalo Olmsted Parks’ Facebook page, along with the caption, “Just wishful thinking for a winter wish”:

Much to the delight of winter weather enthusiasts, the Delaware Park’s rinks were filled yesterday (see photo at top of page). A call to the parks concervancy regarding opening days for Olmsted park ice rinks has not yet been returned.

While waiting for the Olmsted rinks’ ice to harden, get in some outdoor ice skating at these outdoor ice skating facilities in Western New York.
